Housing NPOs and community-based organizations

Housing for diverse clienteles

To meet the wide variety of housing needs in the city's population, the SHDM has delegated the management of nearly 1,079 apartments and 11 rooming houses to non-profit organizations whose mission is to offer support to various clienteles. These clienteles can consist of low-income individuals in the process of reintegrating society after experiencing homelessness, or people with physical or mental disabilities. These organizations take care of the allocation of the housing units, the management and maintenance of the buildings and they coordinate the services offered to the tenants.

Services that benefit the whole community

In addition, the SHDM and the NPOs concerned jointly develop partnerships with community-based organizations by providing premises and invaluable logistical support. Interventions such as homework help, assistance to re-integrate into the labour market and psycho-social support benefit both the tenants in need and the community. The SHDM’s involvement in these initiatives expands year by year.

The Accueil Bonneau opens its doors to hundreds of people experiencing homelessness or at risk, welcoming them to provide essential support and guiding them towards social reintegration and residential stability.

Accueil Bonneau currently manages an 87-room house owned by the SHDM. In the near future, it will manage an additional 114 housing units for the SHDM.

Gérer son quartier

Gérer son quartier is a social economy enterprise founded in 1996, initiated by Bâtir son quartier, with the aim of providing a community resource in property management intervening in neighborhoods where such a resource was lacking.

Gérer son quartier currently manages 166 housing units owned by the SHDM.

The SHAPEM is involved in the revitalization and the urban and social development of the East of Montreal, for the benefit of the community and in collaboration with economic and social stakeholders. This is achieved by carrying out housing and real estate projects, for and with the local population, and by providing quality housing for low and middle-income households.

The SHAPEM manages 495 apartments owned by the SHDM, including 59 rooms.

Ma Chambre

Ma Chambre promotes the autonomy, stability, and social integration of low-income single individuals by providing them with safe and affordable housing, an improved quality of life, and access to support resources.

Société de gestion Querbes (SGQ)

Founded in 1983, the non-profit organization Société de Gestion Querbes (SGQ) is a human-centered real estate management company whose mission is to maintain harmonious living environments for tenants and property owners. Its range of services is focused on tenant education and preventive building maintenance.

The SGQ currently manages 59 rooms for the SHDM.

Anderson Coop

The Anderson Housing Cooperative was established in 1988 with the goal of preserving a set of historic buildings in the city center, following the demolition of the Overdale neighborhood. It was founded through the collaboration of tenants and residents from the area at the time.

The cooperative manages 18 housing units for the SHDM.

Maison l’Intervalle

Maison L'Intervalle, founded in 1985, is a community resource specializing in forensic psychiatry. It welcomes a mixed adult clientele from healthcare and detention facilities who have a psychiatric disorder and an active provincial jurisdiction/Quebec Administrative Tribunal order.

Maison l'Intervalle manages 9 rooms for the SHDM.

Projet Logement Montréal

Projet Logement Montréal (PLM) is the result of a consortium made up of La Maison du Père, La Mission Bon Accueil, The Old Brewery Mission, and L'Accueil Bonneau. Established in 2015, the project aims to provide stable housing for individuals experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness and thereby reduce homelessness in Montreal.

Projet Logement Montréal supports the tenants of 17 housing units owned by the SHDM.

Chez Doris

Founded in 1977, Chez Doris is an organization that provides a range of services and programs to address the most basic and immediate needs of vulnerable women experiencing homelessness, all in an inclusive and non-judgmental environment.

Chez Doris manages 26 studios owned by the SHDM.

Maison du Père

For 50 years, La Maison du Père has been supporting men aged 25 and older experiencing homelessness. They provide emergency shelter services, welcome, listen, and offer various community and public services to address the needs of homeless men in order to promote their social reintegration.

La Maison du Père will soon manage 54 housing units owned by the SHDM.
